Amanda May Spam-a-lam!

my first painting of 2011!!! Its been a while since I've finished one, but I've been busy moving, christmassing for the kids, being pregnant, and working so whatever. This one is for my long time friend Amanda. We've been friends since we's youngsters and we used to draw a lot together. She wanted something to do with Spam, so I painted her sitting in the spam in her rollerskates, and there are a few other things I put in there too that I know she'll love! I'm probably gonna have to show it a few times before I mail it to her. It was fun paintng food, I've never painted food before, and my son loves spam so he's gonna be excited that we can finally crack it open as its no longer needed for reference. Also, the nozzle broke off my matte finish spray and got all over my hands and when i washed it off it took off my nail polish, that just seems weird to me. aaahht 16x10 inches and not for sale but there will be prints available on my etsy!

38x42 inches acrylic and ink on wood....don't ya like it? I do. I'd like to thank my bro Matt for the original ideer that he mentioned to me in Feb of 2009, I'd like to thank Amanda for the cat reference photos, and I'd like to thank Keith for the extra set of eyes and extra mind putting in suggestions as the Alf painting unfolded, and I'd like to thank you for telling me you love my Alf painting.

Mama's Babies 32x48 inches

Finally finished! This one took a while, but, there has been a lot going on and its holiday season and all, so gimme a break! It's 32x48 inches acrylic and ink on wood. Its a typical Sunday for me and my kids. We usually hang out in the kitchen, make cookies or some other deliciousness, and train the dogs. My kitchen isn't really blue, but I wish it was. The kiddos are actually out of town right now at their Nonni's, so I finally had time to finish the painting! I also added Bocephus as a puppy at the bottom. RIP Bocephus.
-------------And on a different note, I need a better lens to take pictures of my bigger paintings, but I don't know what I should be looking for, any ideers from you photographers out there? The lens I have now is the shitty one they sent with the camera, and has been through all sorts of things. It works on my smaller paintings fine, but my bigger paintings turn out all fuzzy. HELP!
Enjoy,
Erika

I have an easel!!!! (finally)

So, I finally have an easel!!!! and it was free! I ain't never had no fancy easel before!! haha...No more crouching on the floor causing pain to my scoliosified spine, or ruining the kitchen counter tops of houses and apartments that I don't own. No more! I know I know, I shoulda already had one years ago (since that's what serious artists do) but I am an orphan with no trust fund in sight, and because of that... I have a "make do" attitude, and I don't spend much money on myself. Not that I'm trying to make any kind of statement, it just rarely crosses my mind to buy things that I might need. I don't think my "make do" attitude is a bad one to have. You just have to be creative. I'm not used to being handed things, but is sure is nice when someone thinks about you and gives you something... just because they think you might need it.
I've never even priced easels. This easel was courtesy of Kirk of Swim Pure Austin, Texas. It's nice and used like. I think it was in a garage for about 20 years or sumthin. I like things that have some history to them. Thanks Kirk! and thank you Keith for putting it together for me! Here's me and Rabbit painting on a sunday afternoon....

killer keifer

Keith has long toenails that need a trimming, so I drew him slicing someones neck with them, all nonchalant like- in hopes that he will cut them soon. (they are not really thaaat long). He's really too sweet to me and I shouldn't embarrass him like I do.
He got me some Copic markers for my b-day and I havn't figgered them out yet so bear with me won't ya? This is actually marker and india ink with a splash of off white paint.

Fannie the Elephant

And heeeere's Fannie! my pink elephant. She's harmless right? WRONG! Just ask the peeps featured in the background. Does anyone else pick up the "Busted! in Austin" paper? Well I do and I used a couple of the folks with PI's and DWI's that made the front page to be in my shadow box. I don't think it's illegal to use their pictures is it? since it was published in a paper I'm assuming that I can use them. Don't drink and drive now ya hear? and don't get sa plastered in public to the point that the police notice, lest I put you in a shadow box displaying your shame.
6x8 inches, just a little feller

Allow me to introduce you to my painting of the Creature from The Black Lagoon, my very favorite movie monster! This is just a peek in on a day in the life. Its hard work stealing lovely bathing-suit clad woman and taking them to his humble abode.
I also added a picture of Milicent Patrick who did the original drawings for the creature costume. She was a super bad-out chick who was a Disney animator way back when. Come on ladies.... show me what ya got!!!!
